Yoav Avni is a two-time Geffen Award winner who loves asking “what if.” One of his novels imagines the Jewish state that might have existed if Herzl’s Uganda plan had gone through. His newest, Time Clocks, just came out in English. It’s about an AI developer who loses his job to the system he built, then gets tangled up with strangers who’ve slipped out of their own eras.
We talked about the the importance of staying grounded in the present moment even in a story that involves time travel, and what it takes to carry a book’s soul from one language into another.
